Kalutara, Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka was never on my radar - until I stumbled over some comments on day trips there while reading through the TripAdvisor website.

Here’s the peice I read: Sri Lanka: Possible day trips from beach areas

So let’s get this straight:

1. You stay on a tropical beach
2. You can visit nearby gem mines
3. You can visit an elephant orphanage
4. You can do a big game safari day out
5. You can visit a sea turle rescue centre
6. Additional Asian culture and heritage

These could be amazing life experiences for my children that they would never forgot - so that one piece immediately put Sri Lanka, especially the Kalutura area, high on my priorities - especially while my kids would be the right age to appreciate it.

While Trip Advisor does have a list of hotels for Kalutura, my research suggests the two main ones to look out for a high star all-inclusive holiday would be:

The Royal Palms does get better reviews than Tangerine Beach overall (83% positive as opposed to 76%).

So now doing more research on this as a possible destination with the family for next year.
