Maldives & Bora Bora

maldives-1

The Maldives has been on my radar for a long time as “the ultimate holiday”.

Sure, not much in the way of ancient ruins or adventure sports. Just lots and lots of beautiful little tropical islands. The perfect getaway.

So the images I’ve seen seem to suggest - lush little islands crowned by white sandy beaches, surrounded by crystal blue waters. Paradise.

However, a disturbing news item on the BBC about a marriage ceremony being misused to abuse the couple in the native language: Maldives police to probe foul-mouthed wedding ceremony

While tourists make easy targets for profit, or even resentment, the hope is that anywhere that values its tourist market ensures the tourists are very well looked after.

That in itself therefore cannot be seen to cause any real concerns about the Maldives - but it does remind what a beautiful place it is.

Check out Google Images for more mouth-watering photos of the Maldives.

And also the Huvafen Fushi, with it’s underwater spas - as well as the Conrad Hilton with it’s undersea restaurant (2 weeks booking notice, please!).

Interestingly, though, while searching around for images of the Maldives - certainly one of the most recommended places - I also happened to find mention of Bora Bora, somewhere I’ve never heard of - a small French Polynesian island near Tahiti.

OMG.
